Baby gates are a necessity of life with little ones in our homes. My problem with safety gates is that so many of them are ugly and an eyesore when mixed with our home décor. I think we’ve had a safety gate in use for more days than not over the past four years.

Munchkin – a brand as parents we are big fans of – has recently launched a new modern safety gate line! I really like that the gates are stylish and have a variety of finishes to find what would best match your décor, while keeping your baby safe and out of trouble.

Some of the features of the new line of Munchkin Safety Gates include:

Munchkin safety gates are built to the highest quality standards and rigorously tested to meet or exceed both U.S. and European safety standards

Munchkin infant safety gates are aesthetically pleasing and come in a wide range of measurements, price points, styles and mounting types.

For more information please visit www.infantgates.com

To celebrate the launch of the new safety gates, Munchkin is currently hosting a new contest called “Protect Your Baby’s Every Move.” Go to their Facebook Page and upload a funny picture or video of your baby’s first steps, baby dancing or moving to enter to win.

Munchkin will select a weekly Facebook winner (from Feb. 15 – May 15) to win a safety gate and $50 gift card to redo their nursery. One grand-prize winner will also receive a nursery set from Munchkin (valued at $530) and a $250 American Express gift card to help with their design. A second winner will receive a $250 American Express gift card to help decorate their child’s room.

A product, but no compensation, was received for this review. The honest opinions are my own.

The new cards allow customers to personalize their cards from purchase to delivery. There are three new ways to give gift cards. One of the most innovative is the option to record a personalized video and upload it to an eGift card or even a traditional plastic gift card. Videos can then be viewed online by the recipient. How neat is that? I think this is a wonderful idea especially for gifts to long-distance relatives. Other gift card options include giving a gift card via Facebook and pop-up gift cards or a gift card with a real level attached. What’s your favorite way to “spruce” up a traditional gift card?

While everyone loves a gift card because it’s a chance to shop for exactly what you want, I sometimes feel like I “cheated” when giving them. I always try to spruce them up a bit with. I’ve gone so far as wrapping a big box and in it is a smaller box, and on and on, until the gift card is finally revealed. Sometimes I will attach the gift card to the outside of a “real” gift. Thankfully, First Data has come up with a wonderful solution for the gift card giver dilemma – eGift Social.

First Data, a global technology payments processing lender, has created eGift Social to help holiday shoppers send “Real Gifts, Real Easy.” eGift Social is a Facebook app and is a fun way to send family and friends gift items from their favorite stores.

Major retailers include Sephora, Sears, Kmart, Burger King, Cold Stone Creamery, and more. Gift giving through eGift Social is simple:

Select a merchant

Add gift recipients

Decide whether you want to send the gift through Facebook, email, or both

Select any of the retailer’s products as a gift

Leave a personal message.

That’s it you’re done and the gift is on it’s way. Your recipient then receives a Facebook message or email stating they have received a gift. He or she then visits the retail location to receive their gift.

One of the best features of eGift Social is that it’s great for those on the go. Both the gift giver and recipient can order and receive gifts in a matter of minutes.

The First Data eGift Social Facebook App is a fun and creative way to holiday shop online. It puts a spin on the traditional gift card and brings back a bit of the “thrill of the hunt” for gift givers this holiday season. It makes shopping fun again.

What about you? What do you do to “dress-up” gift cards?

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of First Data and received an eGift gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

One of my favorite things about summer is our vegetable garden. Tired Dad Dave loves to grow tomatoes and the past couple of years we’ve actually been overrun with them. So on a search to find any and all tomato recipes, I may have stumbled upon the perfect one – Double-Tomato Bruschetta. It’s such a popular dish, that we bring it to all the family get-togethers and the plate is empty in under 15 minutes. Not only is this recipe tasty and filling, but it also helps fight heart disease.

I was recently made aware that ConAgra presented impressive research results at the American Dietetic Association’s Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo. The study showed that the nutrients in tomatoes have a big impact on heart disease prevention. The research revealed that:

Lycopene absortion is 2-3 times higher in canned tomato products than in fresh

Calorie for calorie, tomatoes contain more than twice the potassium of other common sources such as bananas, potatoes, milk and orange juice

Heart health is more important than ever. Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer in the United States. It is important that we are aware of this scary statistic and that we do what we can to prevent it – our children depend on us to take of ourselves and them.

Kora & Logan and Tired Dad Dave, all inspire me to be as healthy as I can be. I want to be around for a long time and I want to have a good quality of life, one that will allow me to enjoy the time I have with them. Not only does striving to be healthy help me to be there as the kids grow older, but it is also inspiring to them and will hopefully encourage Kora & Logan to lead healthy lives too.

Eating tomatoes is one step we can take towards better heart health. In fact, Hunt’s tomatoes are a wonderful source of fiber, Vitamin C, and Lycopene – all important ingredients in the fight against heart disease.

While my Double-Tomato Bruschetta recipe is a big hit in the summer, it’s tough to find quality, fresh tomatoes in Cleveland throughout the winter. Luckily, I tried using Hunt’s canned diced tomatoes and it turned out just as delicious. I was also happy to read that Hunt’s tomatoes are flash-steamed which helps keep their backyard garden taste, they are 100% natural, and contain no artificial preservatives or ingredients.

I’m happy to share it with you and if you get a chance to make it, let me know what you thought.

Double-Tomato Bruschetta

2 (14.5 oz) cans of Hunts Original or Petite Diced Tomatoes

1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, packed in oil

1/4 cup olive oil

2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1/4 cup fresh basil, stems removed

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 Pillsbury Refrigerated Italian bread

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

Make the Pillsbury Refrigerated Italian Bread as instructed on the package.

Preheat the oven on broiler setting.

In a large bowl, combine the roma tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, basil, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes.

Cut the bread into 3/4-inch slices. On a baking sheet, arrange the slices in a single layer. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes, until slightly brown.

Divide the tomato mixture evenly over the bread slices. Top the slices with mozzarella cheese.

Broil for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

(I do confess that this recipe was original found on Allrecipes.com and adapted to fit our tastes. Love that site!)

Our kitchen is in desperate need of help.

It’s all white (or at least it’s supposed to be!) – white tile, white counter, white cupboards. Seriously. Who can keep that all clean? Especially when it’s the most used room in the house. Partly because of it’s where the food is kept, partly because we hand wash our dishes, and partly because it’s the first room you enter when we come in through the much used back door.

As for the appliances, our refrigerator is used and old. It does the job, but the ice dispenser is broken. Our stove is newer, but it is unbalanced so it wobbles when you cook. And did I mention that we have no dishwasher? Yep, we enjoy living in the 1800′s. I feel like half-my life is spent at the kitchen sink.

The good news is there’s an amazing sweepstakes going on right now for people who need their appliances rescued and I’m going to enter. Keep your fingers crossed for me, it would be incredible to win!

If you’re interested in entering too because your appliances need rescuing, here are the details:

Sears Appliances and KitchenAid Rescue My Appliances Sweepstakes

From now through Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010 simply submit a photo of your kitchen and 1-2 sentences to Sears and share why your appliances need rescuing!

You could win a suite of appliances from KitchenAid® (worth $7,000), Service Live Credits toward remodeling (worth $1,000), and a phone consultation with Susan Serra, Sears’ kitchen design expert (worth $200)! Submissions must be in by November 2nd, see official rules at http://bit.ly/cd9CNc for details.

Wouldn’t that be incredible to win?! It only takes a minute to enter, so I’m heading there now. Wish me luck!

What about you? What appliances in your kitchen need rescuing?

Thank you to the Mom Bloggers Club for providing the information about this sweepstakes. I received payment for this post. The opinions are mine.

That Stinks! – But the Arm & Hammer Diaper Pal By Munchkin Doesn’t

The contest runs from October 1st through December 1st and will provide the opportunity for one lucky mom to win a year’s supply of housecleaning sessions because “Cleaning Stinks – But the Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail by Munchkin Doesn’t.”

Through Facebook “Fresh Fridays” Munchkin asks moms to post a light-hearted story about something that happened during the week in their role as a parent. Each week one story will be selected “That Stinks!” and Munchkin will solve the problem and send the winner a Diaper Pail as well.
