Did you know that September is National Coupon Month?

In honor of National Coupon Month, I’d like to introduce you to MySavings.com, an online community whose goal is to connect consumers and offer a place to share money saving tips and offers.

What makes this site different from the hundreds of other coupon communities out there is the ability to leave comments for each item. This way you know ahead of time the experience others have had with the coupon or free sample through their comments. Not only that, but members can rate each item on a scale of 1-5 stars as well, which will give you a better idea of the quality of each offer.

When visiting MySavings.com be sure to leave yourself some time to get lost in the site. The extensive directory of Free Samples is addictive and is full of great offers. You can scroll through the samples by using the categories listed on the left-hand side which include Automotive, Baby, Kids & Mom, Food & Cooking, Magazines, Office Supplies and more. You can also use the tab at the top to find New Free Samples or to view the MySavings.com Favorites.

Food Network is adding a new show to its line-up this Thursday, August 26th at 10:30 pm EST. “Family Style” with brother and sister team, Joey and Melissa Maggiore, is a reality show about the opening of the sibling’s new restaurant Tommy V’s.

This isn’t any run-of-the-mill reality series though, Joey is a prankster who can drive Melissa crazy with his antics. With episodes like the first – “Speed Dating Disaster” in which Joey secretly signs Melissa up for the event taking place at the restaurant, the show is sure to elicit a few laughs.

I recently had the chance, along with a few other bloggers, to interview Joey and Melissa about “Family Style” and found them to be very friendly and very funny.

Q. How has growing up in the restaurant industry affected your career choices?

Joey: Restaurants are our love, passion, and life. We live for it daily and don’t feel like it’s a career.

Melissa: I was a journalist for a year, but food and wine has always been in our blood. While other children were outside playing, we were in the restaurant. In fact, our kids today play “restaurant.”

Q. For each episode how long did you prepare ahead of time?

Joey: We never stopped. We prepare for the restaurant daily. The restaurant was in the making for a year. We ate dinner every night together to figure out the details.

Melissa: We worked on the restaurant for a year before it opened, but there was no actual prep for the show. It is a slice of our life.

Q. Do you have any advice about how to deal with a picky eater?

Joey: There are no picky eaters in my house. Growing up in the restaurant industry my kids, at 1-year-old, were eating octopus and sea urchin.

Melissa: Early exposure is definitely key. As kids get older they tend not to try things that are foreign to them. My 12-year-old daughter has a mature appetite and will try anything. My 4-year-old prefers macaroni and cheese and chicken fingers, however. Sometimes at the end of the day you just need to get food on the table.

I remember how stressful college application testing was. PSATs, PACTs, SATs, ACTs…it just seemed to go on forever and was so much pressure. Luckily students today have a wonderful program available to them to help properly prepare for these tests which, in turn, will lessen their stress levels and allow them some relief from the pressure.

Revolution Prep is a test preparation company that offers services to help students achieve good test scores through preparation and private tutoring. They have compiled mountains of advice about preparing for tests and how to ensure your son or daughter is ready for their upcoming SAT or ACT. They have offered to share some of these tips and a discount code (which can be found at the bottom of the post) for readers of 2 Wired 2 Tired.

As you probably remember from my bad paid for photos, I had braces growing up. It feels like I wore them for years and after I got them off I wore retainers. My teeth looked great for quite a while, but honestly I wasn’t as dedicated to wearing my retainers as I should have been. So my teeth shifted. They’re not as bad as they once were, but I could use another set of braces.

I’ve always wanted to try the Invisalign system, I think it’s amazing that you don’t even notice them on people who are wearing them. And how lucky are teenagers these days? Invisalign Teen offers the clear alternative to braces for the younger set too. In fact, if you know of anyone with teenagers be sure to tell them about the fabulous contest Invisalign Teen is currently running.

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of CryoCell International. All opinions are 100% mine.

When I was pregnant with Kora, I worked in an office and we had a small gym in the building. I did my best to walk and lift a little on my lunch hours or after work. However, it was a different story with Logan. I found it utterly exhausting to be raising a young toddler while pregnant with my second and just couldn’t exercise regularly like I wanted to.

After Logan was born, it took me a very long time to even consider getting back into shape. Having 2 under 2 was tiring and stressful. When the weather warmed up (Logan was born in January) we bought a double-stroller off Craigslist and I would take the kids out for walks a couple of times of week. It was so wonderful for all of us to get out and into the fresh air. I remember Logan as a baby being in awe of the cars driving by and Kora happily snacking away in the stroller. Even though the stroller we had was old and cumbersome it still was nice to have it and be able to get out of the house for our little walks.

That’s why I wanted to share with you the opportunity to receive a brand new really nice stroller from Cryo-Cell. You can get fit for Motherhood with the help of Cryo-Cell by clicking the button below to be taken to their site. Here are the details:

As parents, most of us probably don’t have any big plans today for St. Patrick’s Day. However, if you do, please remember that Buzzed Driving IS Drunk Driving.

If you’re like Tired Dad Dave and I, and are treating today like any other don’t forget that while we are out running errands with our children in tow, we may be sharing the roads with someone returning from a St. Patty’s Day party. That’s why it’s important to get the word out to those partiers that the best way to stay safe is to plan ahead.

Remind those you know who will be celebrating today to designate a sober driver before they leave the event and to have the common sense (and the money in their pocket) to take public transportation if necessary. In fact, programming the number of a cab service in their phone for them may increase the likelihood they’ll call.

So have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day, please be careful out there, and do what you can to get the word out about staying safe and planning ahead. Ask your loved ones to do the same.

For more information, visit Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving on Facebook and Twitter (@Buzzeddriving).

Don’t Forget: Children Count Too

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Did You Know:

  • The first Census took place in 1790?
  • The data from the Census is used to distribute $400 billion in federal funds each year to communities for establishing and improving schools, child care, health care, and hospitals?
  • Many parents don’t the importance of accurately reporting the number of children in their family, including newborns?
  • In 1980, 1990, and 2000, Census Bureau data showed that children are one of the groups most likely to be missed in the Census?
  • In the 2000 Census, there was a net undercount of more than 1 million children under age 10?

If children are undercounted in the upcoming Census not only do we not get a true picture of our nation, but our communities do not get their rightful share of public funds.

The Census only comes around every ten years.  So when you receive your Census form in mid-March, make sure your child (no matter how old) is counted! It only takes 10 minutes to answer 10 questions for a better community.

Thanks to Global Influence for providing the above information. No compensation was provided for this post.

Reading is Fundamental Program in Jeopardy

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

In November of 1966 former teacher, Margaret McNamara, gathered volunteers and they started the book distribution and reading motivation program called Reading Is Fundamental. Today Reading is Fundamental Programs operate in all 50 states as well as in some countries outside the U.S.

Reading is Fundamental helps children learn to read by delivering free books and  resources to children and families who need them most. It is the oldest and largest children’s and family non-profit literacy program in the U.S. Just last year the program provided 4.4 million children with 15 million new, free books and literary resources.

On February 1st, this year, the FY 2011 budget was released and as a result the governmental funds for Reading is Fundamental have been eliminated. Without this funding the program cannot continue on.

But we mom bloggers can make a difference.

Simply visit www.RIF.org/saverif and in just a few easy steps you can send a form letter off to your congressman letting them know you support Reading is Fundamental and you want the funding restored.

Once you’ve clicked the link, all you do is enter your zip code, review the form letter, enter your name and address, and the letter is on it’s way.

Here’s your opportunity to make a difference in the lives of millions of children. What are you waiting for?

www.RIF.org/saverif

Thank you to Reading is Fundamental for providing the information and the image for the post. No compensation was provided, I felt this was an important issue and wanted to share.

National Pancake Day!

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Did you know that Tuesday, February 23rd is National Pancake Day?!

Shrove Tuesday (or as it’s more commonly called now – Fat Tuesday) precedes the season of Lent. Long ago, strict Lenten rules prohibited the eating of dairy products during Lent so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter, and other dairy products. (I think I just read this about paczkis too!) Therefore the English called it Pancake Tuesday.

Tired Dad Dave loves pancakes. So when he heard that IHOP is offering a free short stack of pancakes tomorrow, he cleared his schedule. He’ll be heading to the restaurant with an empty stomach and full pockets. Although the short stack (3) of signature buttermilk pancakes are free, IHOP is running the promotion to raise money for The Children’s Miracle Network and other local charities. They ask that customers donate the cost of their pancakes (or more) in an attempt to raise $1.75 million dollars for the programs.

The free pancakes are available tomorrow from 7:00 am – 10:00 pm at all IHOP’s nationwide. Children’s Miracle Network “Miracle Balloons” will also be sold at $1 and $5 each and will be personalized and displayed at participating IHOP’s.

In 2009, IHOP gave away $3 million pancakes and raised nearly $1.5 million for the Children’s Miracle Network and other local charities. This was far above their goal of $1 million.

For more information about IHOP’s National Pancake Day please visit www.ihoppancakeday.com

IHOP’s National Pancake Day usually takes place on Shrove Tuesday (the Tuesday before Lent) but this year the restaurant is celebrating on Tuesday, February 23rd in attempt to extend the fundraising window by one week to maximize donations for the charities.

The question of the day is: Will you IHOP tomorrow?

Thanks to IHOP for providing the information in this post. The photo was borrowed form the www.ihopepancakeday.com site. No compensation was received for this post, I simply felt it was a wonderful fundraising event for an incredible charity and wanted to pass the information along.

Kelly Ripa cracks me up. I was at the gym yesterday and Regis and Kelly were on and Kelly was baking cookies and just having a ball. She’s just someone who enjoys life and is always smiling. Such great qualities that make her fun to watch.

The following information was provided to me from MomSelect. It’s for a great cause so I’m happy to share it with you:

Kelly and accomplished master baker and cake decorator Buddy Valastro, from TLC’s “Cake Boss,” recently joined forces at a fun event to bake lavishly decorated cakes in support of The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). To add to the excitement, five teams of baking enthusiasts were invited to take part in Kelly’s Cake Off, where they used what they learned from Kelly and the Cake Boss, to decorate their own cakes.

Although you might not get to taste these virtual masterpieces, you can still weigh in on the results! By visiting Kelly-Confidential.com, you can cast a vote for your favorite cake from Kelly’s Cake Off.  For every vote cast, Electrolux will donate $1 to OCRF as part of its $500,000 commitment to help fight ovarian cancer! And since love is on everyone’s mind these days, you can even decorate and send a special virtual cake to a friend, family member or someone you love.  For every cake sent, Electrolux will donate another $1 to OCRF.  Plus, Buddy’s top cake decorating tips are available — sure to inspire baking enthusiasts and novices alike.

If that’s not enough to get you to click over, everyone who logs on to the site and sends a virtual cake will be automatically entered for a chance to win every baker’s dream: a stylish new Induction Range from Electrolux.

So send a virtual cake for a good cause and good luck in the contest!

Thanks to Mom Select for providing the information above. No compensation was received for this post, but I received an entry in a MomSelect contest.
