Bread Pudding Recipe

For years I’d heard of bread pudding but had never tried it. So recently I decided to give it a try. I saved up the ends of a couple of loaves of bread that no one ever eats and made a fantastic bread pudding!
Bread PuddingIt really was delicious and reminded me a lot of my mom’s Christmas morning French Toast Casserole. Kora and Logan enjoyed helping out and eating it too! We’ll be sure to make this recipe again soon.

Bread Pudding

  • 6 slices day-old bread, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Place bread cubes in an 8-inch baking pan.
  3. Drizzle melted butter over bread.
  4. In a medium mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Beat until well mixed. Pour over bread, and lightly push down with a fork until bread is covered.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the top springs back.

  6. So easy is Bread Pudding? You need almost nothing, well, just the things everybody has at home anyway. I need to give this a try, maybe my picky little one will like it. If not, I will for sure. :-)

I love that you didn’t “ruin” it by adding raisins or nuts. I highly recommend the addition of blueberries to a bread pudding though. I make a blueberry bread pudding for dinner sometimes (it really is like baked french toast if you think about it).

I have never had bread pudding. I don’t like rice pudding, so the thought of bread pudding gets categorized with that in my head ;)

But….when you said it reminded you of the French Toast Casserole recipe and I read the recipe – it sure does. And that made it sound good to me.

    The prejudice is interesting….
