Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet – Review

Homemade Baby FoodI can’t cook at all. Luckily, I have a wonderful husband that feeds us fantastic dinners and doesn’t mind too much that I can only make 2 dinners as long as he doesn’t have to wash the dishes! Now the funny part of me not being able to cook is that I made most of my oldest’s baby food and all of Emma’s baby food right now. My friends think it is shocking and hilarious that I screw up any “grown-up” dinner but I will happily spend hours steaming, pureeing and freezing baby food.

The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet book is the latest resource out there for moms like me – wanting to give their baby the best food possible and saving a few pennies doing it.

Written by two highly-respected experts, the book contains more than 200 delicious, wholesome and natural baby food recipes along with guidance that takes the guesswork out of cooking for baby. Each recipe is simple to make and doesn’t require complicated steps or expensive ingredients. Most recipes can be made in 10 minutes or less. The book also provides information about what foods are safe to introduce to baby from weaning to two years of age.

I like that the book features:

  • Nutrition analysis for every recipe
  • An easy-to-spot snowflake symbol next to recipes that are perfect for freezing
  • A fun recipe evaluation chart, so you can rate what meals your little one likes best

Homemade Baby Food

Emma is now 10 months old so I flipped to the chapter on recipes for her age. Recently we were had a big brunch and the Scrambling for More Egg and Cheese recipe was perfect for her.

Homemade Baby Food

The recipes are all easy to follow, even for a cooking challenged person such as myself.

I use a variety of resources for my making my baby food as well as making it up as I go along. One thing I noticed that was different in this cookbook from the others that I’ve used was that the preferred stove-top cooking method was boiling the foods. Other resources I’ve used recommend steaming to preserve the most nutrients. Also, a lot of the recipes call for using butter, which I don’t use when making Emma’s food.

I make all of my baby food in large batches and then freeze individual cubes. Most of the recipes in this book are for a single serving, which isn’t practical for my schedule. However, you could easily use the proportions of the foods to make larger batches.

I especially liked the recipes for older children. They give me fresh ideas on what types of meals to put together once Emma has grown more teeth.

The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet book is a great resource for parents that want to venture into the world of making baby food and would make a wonderful baby shower gift.

I NEED TO GO OUT AND GET THIS FOR ME AND MY 8 MONTHS SON

  2. Hello, Tesa, and thank you for such a flattering review! You ARE a great cook; you just don’t know it. ; > As for the boiling method suggested in the book, I recommend it, since cooking liquid can be so valuable. I use it to thin purees (much healthier than using water!); I use it in soup or to make soup, and I freeze it to have on hand for later. Of course, you can steam, and if you prefer that method, go right ahead! As for the butter, a touch of it is excellent in cooking. Why? Well, fat helps absorb vitamins A, D, E and K, all essential for baby’s proper growth and development. And, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, infants shouldn’t restrict fat until the age of two. So, a little bit of fat can go a long way toward helping baby grow strong and healthy. There you have it! Thank you again for your kind words, and to you and your readers, a happy New Year!

So cool the author made a comment here!
You sound like a great cook really, and you will become better at grown up ‘foods’ your cooking is growing as your baby does!

PS. Butter is a good thing!
