Aloha Friday – Home Improvement

If money was no object, what home remodeling project would you start today?

Why does everything always seem to break at once? Currently our roof is leaking, our porch is crumbling, our vinyl siding was melted by the grill in one spot last summer and has multiple small holes in other randoms places, both cars need to see the mechanic, we need replacement windows, our washer won’t spin, the refrigerator ice maker stopped working, our stove is unbalanced, a couple walls need to be patched in places, and I won’t even start listing the half-done painting projects. Sigh. Home ownership is so fun.

At least the house looks nice when you don’t examine it too closely. It looks cute from the street, it’s decorated nicely, it provides warmth from the cold winter air, and it holds lots of wonderful family memories.

If money was no object and I could only do one project – I’d be really torn between fixing the roof and fixing the cars. What about you, what home remodeling project would you choose to start for your house?

Have you heard of Aloha Friday? According to Kailani at An Island Life, in Hawaii Aloha Friday is “the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend.”So every Friday we get a chance to take it easy on posting. Each participant asks their own simple question and then we visit each other’s blogs to comment on one another’s question.

  1. Good LORD women have you been hearing me complain about this house for the last 6 months?!

REmodel the bathroom would be at the top of my list. The tub leaks into the basement bathroom and ruined the ceiling. It’s now rotting the floor and I’m waiting to fall through. We so need to do something this yr. Hopefully Soon.

I would put hard wood floors upstairs. The carpet is looking a little worn.

My dream would be that my husband would finish our bathroom remodel (1/2 done) and the half bath remodel (1/2 done)-both of them were started at different times, but both are at a standstill now… Sigh…

I’m a little behind on my blog reading so I just read this. But I would buy us a mantle for our fireplace. It kills me that there is no place to decorate in our den.

When I moved into my log home, I thought, “GREAT it doesn’t need painting? Yipee.”

And i was right, it doesn’t need painting, it needs ‘oiling.’ i have to go entire exterior, sand it down – while not disturbing the chinking, (the material that is used to seal the spaces between logs). Then it has be ‘oiled’ with a good quality log home oil. Pretty time consuming.

The only thing the bugs me about the interior walls is that you have dust them. Dust, (I live in a very dusty community – the valley where we live is covered with pleistocene alluvial soil left over the end the end of the pleistocene era, about 2,500 years ago.) It gets everywhere. And I do mean everywhere.

Anyway, I would immediately hire a couple dozen people to strip the outside of the house and oil it. Then I would have them do whatever was necessary to keep the dust out of my house.
