Lately, I’ve been on the look out for healthy recipes. Especially for snacks and ones that kids will enjoy. I found a recipe for Banana Muffins and played with it a bit. I’m excited to say I was able to make a really good muffin with almost no sugar.
Almost No Sugar Banana Applesauce Muffins
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3 bananas, mashed
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup of butter, melted
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease muffin tin (10 cups).
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, beat together the bananas, sugar, applesauce, egg and melted butter. Stir the banana mixture into the flour mixture just until moistened. Spoon batter into muffin tin.
- Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean.

Low sugar?? That’s great! Less guilt involved!
I love this recipe. I’ve been using unsweetened apple sauce in my baking ever since I found out that you can replace the oil with it. It’s the best thing ever.
Yum!!!!!
I have been substituting applesauce for oil in my muffins and breads lately and they taste just as good and just as moist. I like this recipe and am going to try it next time I have some ripe bananas
This sounds really good and moist. My daughter takes muffins to school for breakfast every day!
These muffins sound much healthier than an all sugar muffin!
I’ve got to try this – perfect recipe for the approaching cooler Fall weather!
Definitely going to be trying this – nice simple ingredients and I love that it is healthy!

My son loves bananas and applesauce! We may have to try these out!!!
Cool! I’ve been searching out recipes to try out with LOW sugar for Baby’s First Birthday when the time comes. I don’t want her eating a ton of sugary frosting off of a store-bought cake. I just might try this one out for fun this week to see if I could make it work as a mini-cake. Thanks!
I think bananas just make everything so much better! Great recipe!
what an amazing recipe! It’s great for bananas that are going bad, it looks easy enough for my kids to make with little assistance and little sugar? this I’m bookmarking
